An important tool used to examine the functionality of the optic nerve and assess the course of glaucoma is the examination of the visual field (automated perimetry).<\/p>\n

The Visual Field (optical perimetry) is an examination, the purpose of which is to diagnose problems and abnormalities in the central or peripheral vision that may have come from various diseases (e.g. glaucoma, stroke, tumors or other neurological problems). The percentage of nerve fibers damaged by glaucoma is recorded. It is based on the examinee’s ability to recognize light in each area of the retina. The examination of the visual fields is essential and must be done at regular intervals, in order to identify any changes in the field of vision and monitor possible deterioration.<\/p>\n

The examination consists of focusing the patient’s gaze on one point and projecting light targets at different points of the visual field. Depending on whether or not the examinee can see the objects, a complete visual map is created, allowing the doctor to have a clear view of the examinee’s vision.
The test is not painful and can be done during pregnancy or breastfeeding.<\/p>\n
