Congenital Cataract

When the cataract appears at birth or during the first trimester of life, it is called congenital cataract. The etiology is unknown, but 25% is heredity, but it can be caused by: Viral infections (rubella, herpes simplex, toxoplasma, etc.), taking drugs from the mother, radiation, etc.

Depending on its severity, it must be treated surgically even from the first days of life. If it is present to a mild degree, it needs regular monitoring so as not to cause amblyopia.
