
Retinopathy of Prematurity

Retinopathy of prematurity is a disorder of the retinal vessels and affects premature babies whose gestational age is less than 32 weeks, birth weight less than 1300 grams (low weight), oxygen administration, cerebral hemorrhage, infection, anemia, etc.
Premature children belong to the category of children in which various ophthalmological problems appear, more often than other children. They have a high probability of: strabismus, amblyopia, myopia, glaucoma and vision loss.
Fundoscopy is necessary in all preterm infants. The treatment is Laser Photocoagulation for the development of pathological neovessels.
