Diplopia
Diplopia, commonly known as double vision, is the simultaneous perception of two images of an object.
It is a common result of dysfunction of the extraocular muscles, where both eyes are still functional, but cannot turn correctly towards the desired object. Extraocular muscle problems can be due to mechanical problems, cranial nerve disorders (Common motor nerve, trochlear nerve, and efferent nerve), muscle stimulation, and other causes.
Diplopia can be one of the first signs of a systemic disease, particularly a muscular or neurological process, and can disrupt a person’s balance, movement, or even the ability to read.
